About Breast Augment

What is Breast Augment?

Breast Augmentation Surgery: What is it and when you should consider it?

Breast augmentation, clinically referred to as augmentation mammaplasty, is a medical procedure performed to enhance the size or shape of a woman’s breasts. The purpose of breast augmentation surgery is to make the female breasts appear bigger and fuller. Over the past few years, breast augmentation surgery has gained huge popularity all over the world. It is one of the most frequently performed surgeries in the world of cosmetic treatments.

In breast augmentation surgery, breast implants are used to increase the size of a woman’s breasts. It is also done to restore breast volume. Breast implants are basically of two types- saline and silicone. Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel. Saline implants, on the other hand, are filled with sterile salt water (after they’ve been inserted in the body). Whether to go for silicone implants or saline implants is one of the biggest decisions you need to make if you’re planning to undergo a breast augmentation surgery.

Both silicone and saline implants have their own pros and cons. Most women who’ve had breast augmentation surgery believe silicon implants feel more like natural breast tissue. However, saline implants are generally considered safer. In case of leakage, saline water can be easily absorbed by the human body. Silicone gel, on the other hand, can pose a health threat in case of leakage. It can cause changes in the shape of breasts and also breast pain.

Who is the best candidate?

Breast augmentation surgery can be very useful for women with small or asymmetrical breasts. For breast augmentation surgery, you must have a stable body weight. Also, you should not have any major medical condition as it can interfere with the recover process and can cause many complications during and after the surgery. If you’ve had radiation therapy before, you may not be considered a good candidate for breast augmentation. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are also not advised to go for breast augmentation surgery. Last but not the least, you should be at least 18 years old for breast augmentation surgery (21 years for silicon implants).

Side effects:

Just like any other surgery, breast augmentation surgery has its own risks and side-effects. Scarring, pain in the breasts, infection and bleeding are some of the common side-effects of breast implants. Some women may also experience problems with the size or shape of the implants. There is also a risk of rupture or leak.

What is the Cost?

A breast augmentation surgery can cost anywhere around $5,000 to $10,000. The actual cost depends on the location and the type of implants used. Many women with small breasts develop low self-esteem and negative feelings about their sexuality. A breast augmentation surgery can help overcome such feelings. However, the surgery has its risks and complications. If you’re planning to go for breast augmentation surgery, the first step would be to seek the advice of a cosmetic surgeon. A surgeon will provide you the right guidance on whether to go for the surgery or not and the type of implant you should choose.
