What is eyebrow transplant?

Eyebrow transplant is a surgical procedure through which a permanent customised solution is provided to the patient. A person who has lost his/her eyebrows due to excessive plucking, thyroid disorders and other systemic diseases, burns, tattoos, infections, injury or various other medical reasons now have the option of restoring their eyebrows through the procedure.

During an eyebrow transplant procedure, hair follicles are extracted from other areas of the body, which are known as ‘donor area’.

These ‘donor areas’ vary between men and women as the eyebrow hair thickness differ in men and women. In men, the donor area is generally taken from scalp which matches the eyebrow hair. When it comes to women, hair is taken from behind the ears and upper thighs as women’s facial hair are thinner than men.

Once the hair is grafted from the donor area, the particular area is stitched back leaving no visible scars. During the procedure, every hair follicle is extracted making sure that the original structural characteristics of the hair remain intact. The process is known as stereo-microscopic dissection.

The entire procedure can take up to 5 to 6 hours to get completed, with the recovery period of around 48 hours.

Any strenuous activity is not recommended for a person during this period. After 2 to 3 month’s time, hair starts growing again after the procedure.  Once, the full hair growth is there, one can see the noticeable change in one’s eyebrow hair.

However, after 2 to 3 weeks of eyebrow transplant surgery, eyebrow hair will fall before they start growing again. For the final result of the eyebrow transplant surgery, one needs around 10 months time.
