What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis, also known as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion is a clinically proven technique in which patients achieve heightened focus and concentration. The patient responds to the suggestions of the hypnotist and usually feels calm and relaxed. The participant or the patient enters a trance-like state during hypnosis. He becomes more open to suggestion during hypnosis but doesn’t lose control over his individual behaviour.

Hypnosis works by modulating activities in the regions of the brain. Hypnosis is linked more to the cognitive style than to the personality variables. While some people are difficult or impossible to hypnotise at all, there are some who are highly responsive to hypnosis. People who tend to get easily absorbed in fantasies are more responsive to hypnosis. Children are more susceptible to hypnosis. It is not appropriate for people with severe mental illness.
